Summer Tournament Teams:
At the conclusion of the Spring season each year, EGLL fields summer tournament teams across different age levels to compete against teams from other towns. There may be as many as eight different levels of EGLL tournament teams.
Teams are listed below, along with pertinent tournament information including player eligibility and dates of play.
Little League Tournament Teams
Rhode Island Little League is separated into four (4) districts, with East Greenwich in District 3.
Each summer, the four Districts play their own local tournament, sending their winner to the State tournament at each age level.
State tournament winners go on to play in a Regional tournament with the winner of the 12 year old Regional tournament going on to play at Williamsport in the Little League World Series.
Formation of Teams
In early to mid-May, EGLL will send out information to parents regarding District tournament teams with forms included to allow players to express their interest in being considered for a team.
Expectations of a summer tournament team include a regular practice/scrimmage schedule beginning at the end of the spring season.
District tournament teams will practice and play in a competitive atmosphere that guarantees no specific position or playing time.
If selected, players and families are expected to make the District tournament team a top priority.
The process for selection of each EGLL District tournament team is outlined in EGLL’s bylaws.
While the specific selection process of each team varies, District tournament teams are generally selected by coaches, mangers or fellow players. Inclusion on a team is subject to proof of age and residency requirements.

Urwin Baseball Tournament - 8U & 10U
Each summer, Coventry Little League hosts this memorial tournament in two different divisions 8U & 10U. Usually starting the 3rd week of July, the tournament runs for about two weeks with 3-4 pool play games followed by bracket elimination play by seeding. All Little league rules are followed including strict pitch count limits. A birth certificate will be required for age verification using Aug 31 as the age cutoff.
The 8U Urwin team gives 7/8-year-old EGLL players their earliest introduction to tournament-style baseball, and is primarily made up of players in the AA level. The 8U team will be formed in late June to early July. EGLL will work with division directors to determine coach and player interest.
The 10U Urwin team is primarily made up of 9/10-year-old EGLL players from the AAA division. 10U Urwin rules restrict teams to non-Majors players, and generally to players who do not compete on LL tournament team in that same summer. The 10U team will be formed in late June to early July. EGLL will work with division directors to determine coach and player interest.
“Friendship” Tournament Baseball Teams
Each summer, tournaments are hosted by various leagues or towns that are not a part of the LL tournament team process (Urwin in Coventry is an annual example). “Friendship” tournaments are any summer tournaments NOT associated with Little League District Tournaments. Unlike District tournaments, these tournaments are not certain to happen each summer. “Friendship” tournaments often vary in age eligibility and host locations from year to year but are usually limited to 8-year-old to 12-year-old age groups. Once these tournaments are announced, EGLL will work with directors at applicable league levels (usually AA to Majors) to determine if there are enough players and coaches interested to field a team to compete.
